San Jose Costa Rica Golf Courses

There are five courses in the San Jose area – they are mainly located in the west side of San Jose within a five mile radius of the Santa Ana/ Escazu area. This makes them very convenient to play them without having to travel long.

The courses in the Santa Ana/ Escazu area area Costa Rica Country Club (private), Valle del Sol (public course), Cariari Country Club (semi-private) and Los Reyes (semi-private). The only course in the East area is called Monteran (semi-private).
The San Jose area golf courses are characterized as being hilly and having gorgeous mountain views; but that is where the similarities end. The following is a brief description of each course with links to more detailed information:

Valle del Sol
Valle del Sol is an eighteen hole public golf course that has wide fairways, easy holes and it gives you the option of playing an easy round of golf or if you choose the back tees, you get a formidable test that includes a 600+ yard par 5.

Cariari Country Club
Cariari Country Club is an eighteen hole semi-private course that gives you the country club experience. The course itself is one of Costa Rica's best, with difficult rough, even more difficult greens. You will be lucky to shoot your handicap when playing this course. Play for tourists and non-members is limited to Ramada Herradura hotel guests and Tee Times Costa Rica clients.

Costa Rica Country Club
This course is a nine hole private course that is filled with tradition and history. It has tight fairways and short holes that require precision shots over deep bunkers, or bi-leveled green. Your caddie will help you aim for all the blind shots you will be playing. Play is limited to members and their guests.

Los Reyes
This course is another nine hole course but it allows non-members to play during off peak times. This nine hole course is fun with long par fives and wide fairways. It has a nice mix of long and short par fours. This course is located the farthest from San Jose but still only less than ten miles away.

Monteran
This course is an executive length course in the east side of San Jose. It is a great option if you are in that part of town because it is location gives you awesome views of San Jose.

If you are considering Costa Rica for your next golf vacation, other than the obvious Guanacaste area, San Jose is a great option because it has more options to play and it is close to the ever popular Marriott Los Suenos in Jaco, just one hour away from San Jose. What makes San Jose a great option is that you will have access to the nightlife, eco-tourism tours, and culture. I recommend it for a long weekend and specially a singles vacation in Costa Rica. Enjoy Costa Rica golf!
