Los Suenos/ Jaco Things to Do

The Jaco/ Herradura/ Hermosa area offers a variety of activities and dining options that are among Costa Rica's best. These are my suggestions while visiting this mid-Pacific paradise:

Activities

Canopy Tour
There are several canopy/ziplining options in the Jaco area but my favorite is Canopy Los Suenos option. Costing $70, they will pick you up at your hotel and no cost.

ATVing
Jaco offers the perfect rainforest ATV options. Take your ATV 15 minutes and you are in deep mountain rainforest. There are two-hour tours that take you to waterfalls, rainforest, and the beach for around $70.

Day Trip to Tortuga Island
Take a cruise from the Los Suenos Marina to Tortuga Island - where you can snorkel and have a great lunch on a semi-private beach.

Day Trip to Manuel Antonio

A complete day trip to this national park with the family will create amazing memories. You can take a guided tour through the park to see monkeys, macaws, and virgin rainforest. You can combine the visit with whitewater rafting.

Fishing
The Los Suenos Marina in Herradura beach is the only government sanctioned marina in Costa Rica. This 200+ slip marina offers awesome Marlin and Billfish on 26 to 52-foot alternatives. You pay from $500 to several thousand depending on the size boat you hire.

Carara National Park Hike
This National Park is about 20 minutes from Jaco and offers a great rainforest experience. Great family fun, I would also visit the 'Crocodile River' while visiting the park.

Pura Vida Gardens walk

Restaurants

El Pelicano and Coco

Located in Herradura beach a couple of yards from Los Suenos resort - excellent seafood and sunset view.

Los Suenos MarinaThe Marina offers 6 restaurants from Italian to a sports bar. Each restaurant is good but the Italian "Lanterna" restaurant is my fine dining favorite. The "Hook Up Bar" overlooks the marina in a very casual atmosphere. Located in the Los Suenos resort in Herradura.

Graffiti

One of Costa Rica's best restaurants. Any plate at this small restaurant is an experience to remember. Find it at Jaco Walk for a great meal. Best to get reservations.

Lemon Zest
Lemon Zest is best known for its duck but the lobster is also great - actually most dishes at this restaurant are awesome. Located in Jaco this restaurant offers a complete wine list in a dressier atmosphere.

Ridiculous Burgers

The new restaurant in town! Great burgers and drink specials - this is a place for a bite with friends in a casual atmosphere.

Adventure Dining
Overlooking Costa Rica's tallest waterfall and with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean, Adventure Dining offers an incredible fine dining experience. You are picked up at 4 pm at your hotel and brought back at 9 pm - the standard menu is Filet Mignon, Lobster, and Jumbo Shrimp but the chef actually calls you in the morning and will create a custom menu just for you. This restaurant is the utmost romantic experience for an older crowd. Located about 30 minutes from Jaco.

Bars/Nightclubs

Puesta del Sol Bar
Right on Herradura beach, this is the quintessential fisherman's bar. Enjoy the sunset and the fresh seafood as they cook sport fishermen's daily catch. They offer good drink prices like $2 beers (not bad considering it is right on the beach).

BackYard Bar
Enjoy spectacular sunsets in Hermosa beach at the Backyard Bar. They offer a daily happy hour with free food and great tropical atmosphere. I recommend the tuna burgers and the shrimp basket - go there on Saturdays when they have their own surf tournament.

Claritas Bar
Right on Jaco beach, Claritas is my absolute favorite. The food is great, especially on Fridays when they offer the 1Kg BBQ ribs for just $9. Thursday they have $1 beers and every night Claritas is full of energy.

There are plenty of other suggestions like visiting Villas Caletas to see the sunset there, and other good restaurants but I wanted to limit my list to the best of the best for a group visiting the Jaco area for 7 days.
